FAQ

How the math works, what to do without a birth time, what results mean, plus privacy and ads. The questions people ask most, in one place.

Calculation and input

Is my chart saved on a server?

No. Your birth date, time and gender are calculated only inside your browser. You don't need an account, and pressing the analyze button doesn't send your birth details to our server (they're saved only in this browser for your next visit). See the Privacy Policy for details.

I only know my lunar birthday. What do I enter?

The form uses the solar (Gregorian) calendar. Convert your lunar birthday to a solar date first, then enter it. Your month pillar can shift by a day around a solar term boundary, so if you were born near midnight, try to get the time right.

What if I don't know my birth time?

Choose "I don't know my birth time" and we'll ask a few lifestyle and personality questions. Then we pick likely candidates among the 12 two-hour blocks. The estimate comes with a confidence score, and you can tap another candidate to try it. If your family remembers hints like "early morning" or "evening", favor candidates in that range. Changing the hour pillar can change your career and later-life readings.

What are Brief, Standard and In depth?

They set how much we write about the same chart. Brief covers your key traits. Standard covers every section evenly: Day Master, day pillar, Five Elements and Ten Roles. In depth adds every past and upcoming Luck Pillar. The scores stay the same. Only the amount of text changes. In depth is the default, and you can switch at the top of your results anytime.

Reading your results

Which table do you use for Noble Helper?

From your Day Master: 甲, 戊 and 庚 take 丑 and 未; 乙 and 己 take 子 and 申; 丙 and 丁 take 亥 and 酉; 辛 takes 寅 and 午; 壬 and 癸 take 卯 and 巳. Schools differ on 庚. Mukwoon always uses 丑 and 未, the same table as the Special stars on your results. The Scholar Star is shown only as a bonus. A Noble Helper is a hint about where help tends to come from, not a promise of help.

Does a high score mean a great year, no matter what?

No. The score is the engine's rough reference number based on your Luck Pillar, Ten Roles and five-element balance. A high score often points to a setup where your energy flows easily. A low score often points to a time for adjusting and resting. Real results still come from preparation and choices.

Can I buy stocks based on the Money style and Money timing tabs?

No. Those tabs put your Wealth energy and temperament into words. They are not market forecasts. The wealth flow scenarios only reflect your risk style. Investment losses come down to money management, diversification and information, not your Saju.

Are the career suggestions final?

They're hints about your fit. Look at licenses, health, market demand and living costs, too. A field marked "may fit you less" isn't off-limits. It just means it may drain more energy.

Another Saju reader told me something different.

Different calendar standards, time zones and schools of interpretation lead to different wording. Mukwoon is one engine's interpretation, not the one right answer. For big decisions, combine many sources with your own judgment.

Can't I just look at my zodiac animal?

Your animal is one character: the branch of your year pillar. Personality, money and compatibility live mostly in your Day Master and all four pillars. The 12 zodiac animals page is a primer. For your own reading, use the calculator on the home page.

Service, ads and contact

Does it cost anything?

Readings and guides are free. Google AdSense ads may appear to keep the site running. See the Terms of Service.

I want to turn off personalized ads.

You can turn them off in Google Ad Settings. You can also block cookies in your browser.

I found a bug.

Send what you entered (without anything that identifies you) and a description of the screen through the contact page or to joun90@gmail.com. We don't offer personal Saju consultations.

What's the difference between a Luck Pillar and yearly energy?

A Luck Pillar is like the climate for about 10 years. Yearly energy is that year's weather. Our timing tab mainly follows your Luck Pillars across past, present and future. So if a trendy yearly forecast shows different numbers, it isn't necessarily an error. For big decisions, look at your Luck Pillar first. Use the year's clashes and harmonies as hints for scheduling and moves.

Someone said my month pillar is off because of a solar term.

Saju uses solar terms, like the Start of Spring, as month boundaries. That can differ by a day or two from a regular calendar month. Our engine accounts for solar terms. If another app shows a different month pillar, check the exact solar term time. If you were born within 3 days of a boundary, entering your exact time really matters.

My time estimate has low confidence. Should I still use it?

If confidence is low, don't lock in the hour pillar. Switch between the top two or three candidates and keep only the sentences they share. Career, children and later-life readings are sensitive to the hour pillar. Readings like money and your current Luck Pillar come mostly from the year, month and day, so they stay steadier.

Why do you ask for gender?

Traditional rules use it to set the direction of your Luck Pillars (yang male, yin female) and for some of the wording. The engine can't capture identities that differ from these two options. If that feels uncomfortable, pick whichever is closer for you. If the wording feels off, switch to Glance for just the key points.

Can I share screenshots of my results?

Sharing for personal fun is fine. But don't enter or publish someone else's birth date without their consent. We don't recommend reading and spreading minors' charts for fun. Commercial redistribution needs our prior consent under the Terms of Service.

Ads cover the content, or I want ads gone.

Ads pay for running the site. You can turn off personalized ads in Google Ad Settings, and using an ad blocker is your choice. For complaints about a specific ad, report it to the advertiser or Google. If the page layout breaks, tell us and we'll check it.

The Five Elements and zodiac pages don't match my result.

The guides describe general tendencies. The calculator combines your four pillars. Even if the Horse description doesn't sound like you, that's normal when your month, day and hour bring other elements. Your own chart always comes first.

Will my result change in a different browser?

Enter the same birth date and time and the same engine runs. If results look different, check the estimated time, reading depth and gender. There's no save feature, so you'll need to re-enter your details even from a bookmark. If you note your birth details somewhere, keep them separate from ID numbers.

I was born outside Korea. What about time zones?

The engine currently splits hour pillars using Korea time (Asia/Seoul). If you were born abroad, it's common practice to convert your local birth time to Korea time first. If that's hard, just get the two-hour block roughly right and treat hour-pillar readings as a loose reference. We can't guarantee exact astronomical time differences.

Can I quote your content?

For personal study or non-commercial quotes, please credit Mukwoon. Copying whole guides onto another site to earn ad revenue may break our Terms of Service. For partnerships, email us.

The input boxes feel small on my phone.

Portrait mode works better than landscape. If the number keyboard hides things, tap the background once after typing and the analyze button shows up. If the problem keeps happening, tell us your browser and screen width. When you save a screenshot of your result, crop out your birth date. Hide anything that could reveal who you are. If an ad covers the page, let us know and we'll check the layout. The guides stay free, ads or not.
